Celebrities set the style for many when it comes to hair fashion, so we thought we’d highlight some of the celebrity hair styles and colors that have caught the attention of the media in the past week or so.
On March 21, Canadian model and actress, Nina Dobrev (born Nikolina Konstantinova Dobreva and now aged 24), sported bold magenta-pink highlights in her role as Elena Gilbert in the supernatural drama television series, The Vampire Diaries. In the episode, Elena travels to New York City with one of the vampire brothers, Damon Salvatore (played by Ian Somerhalder) and opts for this “indulgent” hair treatment – just for fun.
You don’t have to be in love with a vampire to try Nina’s style. Just be aware that for a brunette to achieve this look, it’s necessary to create lighter brown highlights prior to coloring them magenta. It doesn't work on dark hair!
On March 24, 15-year-old Ariel Winter (Workman) dyed her hair bright red, and tweeted to the world:
“arielwinter Soooooo.... I dyed my hair red.... ;) #littlemermaid”.
Best known for her ongoing role as Alex Dunphy in the television series, Modern Family, and Sofia in the Disney TV series, Sofia the First that premiered in January this year (and is a far cry from the Little Mermaid!), Ariel is another star who is a natural brunette.
On March 27 (two days after her 29th birthday), highly successful singer and actress Katharine McPhee arrived in LA for an appearance on American Idol. Her long chocolate-brown locks had been chopped into a kind of a chin-length bob and colored a kind of much lighter, sunny brown.
It was, of course, being the runner-up in the 2006 American Idol that launched her career. And for the past year she’s been more recognizable as long-haired Karen Cartwright, the part she has been playing in the NBC show Smash.
Those in the know say her motivation for changing her hair style was due to the probable axing of the program. So what? A transformation is always good for the soul.
But it’s not all good. Rihanna’s new celebrity hair style has been voted BAD! In fact it’s so bad, 20% of the poll voted her the worst of this young century. The style is named after the LA musician, Skrillex, and one side is shaved and the other long. But not everyone hates it: it has been reported that some people are copying it.
